Dear St. John Fisher Families, WHERE IS GOD? Yesterday when I was walking to the kindergarten program, Mrs. Caulfield was in a panic because as the children were lining up for their performance, she realized that God (who had some very important lines) was missing! He was in the bathroom. When I was driving home from the pre-school program last night, I chuckled again at Sally’s question, realizing that God was very, very present in the corridors of SJF this week. Despite the troubling economy, your response to both the toy collection and the lunch for the homeless project was absolutely overwhelming! What a wonderful example of care and concern for others you demonstrate to your children. Thank you also for entrusting your children to us. I wish everyone in the parish could walk through the school this week to see the Christmas projects and “gifts” that are being created. I wish they could hear the excitement in the voices of the wee folks when they talk about Christmas. I wish they could hear the music of our Junior High Carolers who serenaded the office staff yesterday. I wish they could share the great news I heard last night at the pre-school program when one of our grads came up to tell me he just received his acceptance letter from Notre Dame and a second grad, also an ND grad, told me about working on his MA at Northwestern. A third graduate’s volunteer work was the motivating example that inspired the collection for the homeless lunches. The pre-school and kindergarten audiences were filled with new babies and young families who are continuing to “invest” in our school. What a wonderful sign of hope they are. Several of our veteran families who no longer have children in our school asked me to be the conduit of their generosity, asking if any of our families might need a little extra help this Christmas. What a glorious legacy they are creating for the continued vitality of the school and parish. Where is God? I do not think you have to look too far to realize that God is present in the generosity, hope, and wonder that we see in our children and each other each day. Merry Christmas! Sr. Jean
